Dr. Moreland obtained his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University and completed medical school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. He then completed a Pediatric Internship, an Adult Psychiatry Residency and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center – Houston. During his Child Fellowship, he served as Chief Resident.

After completing his training, he accepted a position as an Assistant Professor with the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine and staff psychiatrist at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), where he spent the past 5 years. While at TCH, in addition to teaching and supervising medical students, residents and fellows, he managed a large, diverse Pediatric Psychiatry Clinic. The clinic specialized in the comprehensive evaluations of children and teens with behavioral and emotional difficulties. He also managed the Clinic for Attention Problems, (CAP), a multi-disciplinary clinic specializing in disorders of attention (i.e.ADD/ADHD) and commonly associated problems. The CAP serves multiple functions: 1) Education of pediatric and psychiatric residents in the evaluation and treatment of ADHD, 2) Clinically it served as a referral clinic for area primary care pediatricians as well as the difficult cases of pediatric specialists and 3) Research of important questions about ADHD.

In addition to his extensive clinical work, Dr. Moreland has co-authored several chapters on the treatment of pediatric depression as well as given countless lectures and seminars to students, residents, physicians, nurses and the public at-large on a variety of mental health topics. He remains active in the education of psychiatric residents and fellows at Baylor College of Medicine. He is a consultant to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Texas Medical Association, and the Hogg Foundation for Mental Illness on a variety of topics including the psychosocial and pharmacological management of Muscular Dystrophy, assessing and treating ADHD in primary care, childhood psychopathology and the integration of psychiatry and primary care.  For the past two years, Dr. Moreland has been a consulting psychiatrist with the Hogg Foundation for Mental Illness Integrative Healthcare Initiative.  The focus is to promote effective identification and treatment of mental health problems in primary care settings.  Dr Moreland consults on a weekly basis with a community pediatric clinic as they evaluate and treat ADHD within this community clinic.

Working at one of the largest pediatric hospitals has given Dr. Moreland the experience of assessing and treating children and families with complicated situations, difficult to treat disorders and patients from all over the world. This experience and his training provide Dr. Moreland a unique and diverse background in which to provide care for children, teens and adult.

Dr. Moreland has been in private practice since 2008 at the Sugar Bend Center Individual & Family Wellness and enjoys serving the families of Fort Bend, Harris and surrounding counties.
